Student Apathy Ram Ne. “es by Dayle Bowyer UNBC March Sixth turned out to be a day of disappointment for the Northern Under- graduate Student's Society. A bi-election for the position of recorder was held before the Reading break. However, so few students turned out to vote that the election resulted inatie. The Majority of Stu- dents on campus are either not aware or just don't care about what is going on cam- pus. This was only rein- forced on March 6th when only about six or seven stu- dents turned out for to listen to the current candidates for the position of recorder talk. When asked about the prob- lems with student apathy on campus, candidate Tim Dressel said, "It is repul- sive." One of the most important things addressed at this meeting was the resignation af a; Social Promotions Director Erin Kinghorn. Her resignation will be effective April 30th. The Society is not sure. how ia handle her resignation at this time. Kinghorn, however, expressed an interest in using the two months she has remaifing to train her replacement. Any decision has been:tabled for the moment to allow possible candidates for the position to come forward. Many other concerns were addressed at the meeting including the possibility of the Student's Society assuming responsibility for Fall orientation. So far this has been left largely up to Student services, however the question of funding is now becoming a major concern. : For more information concerning the Northern Undergraduate Student's Society, the Directors, or any of the Directors meetings, the minutes of every meeting are recorded and made available to any member of the Society.
