Golden-crowned Kinglet--Regulus satrapa Lichtenstein

Observed in coniferous forests in all the regions visited in-
cluding a stand of alpine fir near timberline on Rocher Deboule.
At Puntchesakut Lake the male of a mated pair was heard singing
May 18, and the behaviour of a mated pair in thick alpine fir
woods at Summit Lake indicated that young were being fed. It
was probably the most abundant forest bird at Sixteen Mile Lake
and at Puntchesakut Lake in late August. At the last place as
many as 20 or 30 sometimes were called up at one time by means of
the pigmy owl whistle

Ruby-crowned Kinglet--Regulus calendula (Linnaeus).

At Puntchesakut Lake ruby-crowned kinglets were a conspicuous
element in the migration of small birds that moved through the brush
on the lakeshore between May 6 and May 24. At the same time the
loud song was the dominant sound in the forest and there, in the
latter part of this period, pairs were established on nesting terri-
tories. An autumn migration was in progress in this region during
the first week in September, most of the small groups observed being
in company with Audubon warblers and golden-crowned kinglets. On
September 5, two, presumably adult males, were heard singing; the
majority, thought to be young of the year, were silent except that
the alarm note was given when one became excited at the sounds I
made to attract small birds.

The species was observed also at Bouchie Lake, June 5, June 6;
Dale Lake, June 20; Chief Lake, July 8; Bulkley Lake, July e/, and
Francois Lake, on migration, August 9.

Alpine Pipit--Anthus spinoletta (Linnaeus).

A flock of 16 on a meadow at Puntchesakut Lake, May 6, and two
flocks, numbering six and twenty respectively, at Tiltzarone Lake,
September 1, were the only observations of the spring and autumn
migrations.

In the Rocher Deboule Mountains, on July ee, several adults
and full grown young were observed in flight and perched on boulder
tops in the alplands The young were in the spotted plumage and
evidently had quite recently left the nest.
