Redstart--Setophaga ruticilla (Linnaeus). An adult male at Puntchesakut Lake, May 28, was the first and only observation for that general region. At Bouchie Lake, June 6 and subsequently, it was one of the commonest birds and usually the first to appear in response to squeaking or an imitation of the pigmy owl whistle. It was equally abundant at Bulkley Lake in late July and was noted elsewhere during mid-summer as follows: Nukko Lake, July 8; Smithers, July 12; Lacroix Lake, July 14; Maclure Lake, July 15; Hazelton, July 17 An autumn migration was in progress at Francois Lake between August 5 and August 9, and at Bouchie Lake from August 17 to August Ale) English Sparrow--Passer domesticus (Linnaeus). Observed in small numbers in the towns of Quesnel, Prince George and Hazelton. At Francois Lake, August 4 to August 13, a flock of 12+, frequented a farm yard and roosted in the farm build- ings. Western Meadowlark--Sturmella neglecta Audubon, Seen or heard at Quesnel, May 6; Dragon Lake, June 8; Bouchie Lake, June 15; Dale Lake, June 20. It was not plentiful and none was seen north of the Quesnel region. Yellow-headed Blackbird--Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus (Bonaparte). Four males were observed in a sedge marsh along Puntataenkut Creek on May 16. None was seen at that place when it was next inspected on May 31 so it can be concluded that these were transi- ents. None was seen elsewhere during the sumer. Red-winged Blackbird--Agelaius phoeniceus (Linnaeus). This blackbird was found to be widely distributed, but not particularly abundant anywhere.
