WITH PARDONABLE pride we present the 7th edition of THe SHoutpser Srrap,
and no effort has been spared to maintain the standard and give you a full measure of inter-
esting, exciting and authoritative articles concerning the activities of the men who form the
oldest territorial police force in North America—the British Columbia Police. All the glamour
of British Columbia’s colourful history is indelibly associated with this Force, for throughout
the pageantry of Canada’s “‘last frontier” we are constantly aware of the part played by the
Crown’s khaki-clad upholders of the law. For this reason we feel the definite obligation to
produce a police magazine thoroughly in keeping with the Force’s illustrious record.

That we have’ succeeded is borne out by the many letters of appreciation and encourage’
ment. We take additional pride in the fact that police journals throughout the English speak-
ing world have unstintingly praised our effort. On our own behalf we should like to specially
thank our subscribers, advertisers and members of the Force for their wholehearted support.

In this issue many of your favourite authors appear again, and some new ones. We na-
turally receive a great many contributions but only those that are authentic are published,
and then only after much checking and research.

In the four years since our first issue left the presses, the world has seen history made, and
remade. We have seen militarism unleashed and rampant, overthrowing the ideals of Chris-
tianity and decency. We have also seen, rearmed democracy re-dedicated to the task of rid-
ding the earth of the curse of Hitlerism. The way may be long and hard, but of the final
result there is no doubt. And with the task accomplished humanity will have advanced an-
other step towards “. . . the Parliament of man, the Federation of the world.”

are stars to guide us on our way. Never did heroism shine
more brightly than it does now, nor fortitude, nor sacrifice,
nor sympathy, nor neighbourly kindness.

And with them, the brightest of all stars is our faith
in God. These stars will we follow with His help until
light shall shine and darkness shall collapse.
