As we looked outside
We saw everything we could have been doing

Things that we should be doing, really.

We shouldn’t feel this panic seizing our
muscles when
we come home because we know that

all we have to do is more Doing

We think about the future because the present evades us

Goals float in our minds that are seductive
Only then, we think, will we be happy in the present
But the future becomes present, and that dream

is never as gilded as it was in our minds

What happens when the Doing stops
What happens when we just take a moment to realize

that this very moment is so singular and beautiful

And so we walked

We walked

And walked

And for a moment

As the snow crunched and twigs snapped
and the wind let out an exhale

That we finally felt at peace.

Decided the other night

after a smidge of a fright

that I wanna be an old fogie
one of them crusty oldies
than frequent the crag

with skin dripped baggie faces
and lightning in their eyes.

I wanna be one of them old ones
one of the ‘prodigal sons’

that say

back in my day...

I want to be from a golden age
just; not one filled with beige
mines gonna be full of colour
and won't be duller

than I make it.

I’m gonna be a silver cragger
one who looks real haggard
but can still send a route

with wrinkly feet in wrinkly boots

That’s my plan.

I’m gonna be that wrinkly bloke
with wiry brushes for brows
and that smiling knowing frown
that says

back in my day...
