OS FOE Coguarerr7a Reswenriat Scuoor — SOO ES 2a Soe OO oe ee QGZ School Tradition RADITION is that which is neither law or regulation, but the persuasive influence of the high ideals of the school, handed down unconsciously by outgoing to incom- ing students, to be imitated and passed on in turn. No school can be great without tradition—and no great school, or school with any pretence to worth or merit, can be without tradition. Some of the traditions Coqualeetzans have striven to weave into the fabric of the school are: Reverence for God’s Word and all sacred institutions. Loyalty to Canada, the Empire and the King. “Play the Game,” in classroom, playground and home. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” “Love Duty.” All necessary work is honourable. Honour our Highdays and Holidays with the observation of all the beautiful, time-worn customs. Valedictory Address NOTHER year has rolled around, and another Graduating Class is preparing cA to leave Coqualeetza, the beautiful school under whose roof we have been shel- tered for many years. From the first moment we entered the school it has been a second home to us. We have been treated by the Staff as though we were their own —taught by them, guided by them, and gradually fitted by them for life in the outside world. It makes us sad to realize that we are now about to leave this happy family—our kind staff and dear playmates, but we are glad to go back to our own people, carrying with us to their aid the knowledge we have gained at school. We are also gladdened by the thought that we are making room for others to enjoy the same opportunities and privileges of education that have been ours. It seems to us that the greatest weapon in the world in these days is education, and we are grateful to think we have been endowed with this weapon at Coqualeetza. Our motto is: “No Back- ward Step.” We must not slip back or fall down after we leave school, but must press forward step by step in our life career. This thought must be uppermost in our minds as we look for the last time at the motto over the door and then set forth on the journey of life. In saying good-bye to our beloved Principal, our teachers and fellow-students, we wish them success in all their future undertakings—and to those who come after us, we would say that we hope they will enjoy school life as much as we have done, and will make good progress here. Look ahead, not back; look up, not down; do things right, not by halves; trust God. (Signed) CLARENCE WESLEY, Valedictorian, Class of 730. Page eight
