SHAPIRO COPY EDITOR group of Over the Edge editors left Ar George last Wednesday for a 5-day journalism conference in Victoria, BC. The commute to the island was long, but the mild weather, beautiful lights, and young jour- nalists from around the country were welcoming. It has been two days since NASH 74, the eighth annual student conference hosted by Can- adian University Press (CUP), has started and already we have sat audience to some impressive journalistic personalities. The keynote speaker of the opening night was Alan Cross, the host of the popular radio show The Ongoing History of New Music. With new technology coming in, he said, and old print traditions moving out, we are the future of not a dying world of journalism, but a changing one. The message he seemed most eager to share with us was this: Do something every week that scares the shit out of you.
