Kamloops, the centre of British Colum- bia’s dry belt, is a divisional centre for the Canadian Pacific and Canadian National Railways, and as such depends on railroad- ing as its chief industry. Its name as a health centre for respiratory disorders, how- ever, is internationally known, for it is the home of the famous Tranquille Sanatorium, a provincial institution for the treatment of tuberculosis, situated on the banks of the Thompson River, nine miles west of Kam- loops. The district surrounding Kamloops thrives principally on agriculture and cattle raising. There are also several small mining operations from which the city merchants derive no mean revenue. Kelowna and Vernon are headquarters for the extensive fruit industry in British Columbia’s interior. The former is a veri- table hive of industry from the time the first buds blossom in the spring until the last fruit is picked in the late autumn. Apples, peaches, cherries, apricots and other small fruits are grown in abundance throughout the region, and several modern canneries and packing houses are located in Kelowna to handle the tremendous out- put. The quality of the fruit from this area is world renowned. The life of Vernon is similar to that of Kelowna, with its acres and acres of or- chards and packing plants which provide seasonal occupation for its residents. KAMLOOPS MOTOR CO. LTD.
