If you haven’t already noticed, UNBC goes above and beyond to en- sure that we not only reduce our col- lective carbon foot print, but we also educate others on how to do the same. If you would like to get more in- volved with environmental programs at UNBC there are a plethora of clubs and groups you can join including Students for a Green University. If joining a club just isn’t for you, or you are not really sure where to begin we’re here to help. Over the Edge has compiled a list of “Green Tips” to help you make it through the semester and continue on living a more environmentally con- scious life. 1.This is a no-brainer, but be sure to pack around a reusable water bottle. First of all, water is free and it is a waste of your money to be shell- ing out nearly $2.00 every time you feel parched. Second, it is extremely wasteful to be purchasing and subse- quently discarding disposable plastic bottles on a regular basis. Besides, the water in disposable bottles is exactly the same as the water from the tap! 2. Wash your clothes in cold water. This will not only save on your energy bill but it also helps to reduce clothing shrinkage. Two birds with one stone: save money and make sure your fa- vourite shirt stays perfect. 3.Did you know that you can recycle more than just beverage containers? Shampoo bottles, household clean- ers, and other product which come in a plastic bottle are also recyclable. Some stores will take the bottles back when you are done with them, but you can always bring them to the univer- sity and put them in one of the many recycling containers. 4.Always remember to unplug your cell phone charger when you are fin- ished. Even when your phone is not connected to the charger it still uses energy. The best way to prevent this is to make sure that you take the char- ger out of the socket when you unplug your phone. 5.Try and take public transit as much as you can. After all, you have un- limited access to all the busses in Prince George because of the U-Pass. If you live out of town and the bus does not come to your area, or you plan on doing something after the busses stop running try and plan a car pool. Talk to your neighbours and friends to come up with a schedule to use as little cars as possible! COMING!? Fall is most definitely the best season as far as a season goes. Fall means new fash- ion. It means boots and scarves! Who doesn’t love pulling out their fashion boots from the basement and discov- ering that your wardrobe has grown two fold. Summer is great and all, but the novelty has worn off for the 2011 year and the oranges and reds of fall really must make their way in. Ladies, its time to start to think about storing the flip flops - from now on in you must only think about the boots! Flat knee-high boots for this fall and winter will be my number one choice. The Prince George Public Library proudly presents The Hot Blooded Ball on Friday, Oct. 28, with special guests Jim Parrack (Hoyt) and Kris- tin Bauer (Pam) from the hit TV ser- ies True Blood. Tickets are $80 per person with a limited number of pre- mium $100 tickets available, that will include a special photograph oppor- tunity with the stars. The Ramada ballroom will be transformed into a setting familiar to every fan of the popular adult vampire series - Fangtasia, the gritty vampire bar in Shreveport, Louisiana, owned by Eric Northman and managed by Eric’s trustworthy assistant, Pam. “This is an adult event to benefit a major renovation project planned for the adult floor at the Bob Hark- ins branch,” said library board chair Philip Mantler. “The Skylab project is creating 1,000 square feet of new space, allowing for more Internet ac- cess, more computer stations, a new computer instruction lab, a new infor- mation desk and new shelving.” A portion of the $80 ticket for The Hot Blooded Ball will be a tax- deductible donation to the library’s adult floor renovation project. Tickets go on sale on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at the Bob Harkins and Nechako branches of the library. Tickets can also be pur- chased with a credit card online at the library’s brand-new website through PayPal or by calling 250-563-9251 or 250-962-9710. Guests will be treated to an array of ghoulish appetizers and the cash bar will feature several nightmarish drinks. The area’s top DJs will be pumping out the latest dance hits to get everyone’s blood flowing, provid- ing the soundtrack for a great party with two of the stars of the sexiest show on television. Besides being available for autographs and pictures, boots with hardware details are the perfect option. Boots that are a little more tough are perfect for dressing down any outfit and making it feel more casual. Even though boots with buckles and metal detail seem to be extremely popular with every celeb- rity and their mom, I cannot help but to follow the trend. Now that fall is closing in, I can already imagine the falling leaves and cool breezes. Like I said before, right now I am all about buckle boots and espe- cially low/short boots that go great with dresses and jeans and I am really craving a new pair. And now that fall has officially started it will be so fun to see all of the new boots walking around UNBC and to get myself a pair of my own! int ps Friday Ocfaben 26(h af the Ramada Tetels $80 Joy Papracd (Haut) atid Rristin Bavey (Pay) Ine PG PUBLIC LIBRARY Parrack and Bauer will pick the best Halloween costumes from among the crowd. “We have many more outrageous treats planned with our special guests to make the night something special that Prince George has never seen be- fore,” Mantler explained.
