6 Review September 16, 2009 + Over the Edge Students in Action 15th Anual Backyard BBQ REZA AKBARI PRODUCTION COORDINATOR REZA@CFUR.CA 15th Annual backyard BBQ, held on Sep- tember 11. This year, the backyard BBQ started around 11:30 am which was very different compared to the past three years that I have been at UNBC, where the event usually commenced after 5:00 pm. All members of NUGSS worked really hard, however, the student turnout was not very high. There could be a number of phenomenon that contributed to the lack of attendance. The starting-time of the event was quite early. There are more than 20 classes in session from 11:00 am - 6:30 pm on Fridays. Even if the aver- age attendance for each of those twenty classes was 15, still 300students would be in class during the event. There was also a lack of advertisement and promotion during the first week of school. The four very talented bands performed this year to a very scat- tered crowd. Some people watched the event from their rooms in residence. It should’ve been more heavily emphasized that this BBQ was organized just for the students. What would better than hav- ing fun, listening to great music, and have drinks, and socializing with all other stu- dents? Why not join the fun instead of staying in Res? Being a spectator from your room does not sound very appeal- ing. Turn on TV instead, watch movie or some other show. Once again thanks to all NUGSS mem- bers, you all worked so hard and did good job. This year was good experience. northern undergradu Student society
