Miss Epirn GrLes—Sister of Mrs. Raley. Miss Giles was a High School teacher in Ontario for forty years, and on retirement from that work in 1928 she was appointed Organizing Secretary for the Women’s Christian Temperance Union for the Dominion of Canada. It was in this capacity that she came west, and though she was ostensibly taking her Christmas holidays while in Sardis, she nevertheless gave many interesting and inspiring talks on her work, not only at Coqualeetza but throughout the district. Miss Giles also delighted us with a travel talk, dealing with her recent trip abroad. We were sorry when her all-too-short visit came to a close, but hope to welcome her back again in the not too distant future. Miss SARAH SPENCER AND Miss Witson, Victor1a—Who were deeply interested in our school, especially in the Spencer Library, named after Miss Spencer’s mother, who was the donor of the books which formed its nucleus, and who has added to it at intervals ever since. Miss Spencer also recently sent us a donation of new books, which we acknowledge with grateful thanks. MonsiEuR Paut CozE—Scout Commissioner from Paris, France. As the best-known French authority on the North American Aborigine, and author of numerous books on ethnology, Monsieur Coze was naturally deeply interested in visiting our school, making the acquaintance of the students, and viewing Principal Raley’s collection of curios, which served to give him an insight into the traditional customs and the development of the native people in this far-west province. During the afternoon M. Coze addressed the school, and also entertained us exceedingly by making clever water- colour sketches of several of the students, including Maggie Brown, Patterson McKay, Gertie Nelson, Robert Gray, and Sophenia Wallace. As a King Scout, M. Coze posed for a photograph with our King Scout, Mr. Robert Gray. Mr. F. C. S. Sara—Scout Commissioner from Vancouver, who accompanied Monsieur Coze on his visit to us.
