In Saint Paul's letter to the Christians who lived
in Philippi he said, “Have no anxiety, but in everything
make your requests known to God in prayer and petition
with thanksgiving." We learn in this passage from the
Bible that thanksgiving is central to the Christian life.
As Christian people we must be thankful for the joys, and
sorrows God sends us in this life.

All of us here in Cassiar have celebrated Thanks-
giving Day with our families. We have thanked Almighty
God for food, friends and all the blessings of this life

_but this must not end when Thanksgiving is over. This
day is a reminder of what our attitude to God should be
every day; an attitude of thanksgiving to God no matter
what happens in our daily lives.

Some of us might be thinking, "Yes, we can be thank-

ful when everything is going well but what about when
things aren't going so well?" JI think it is very impor-
tant to say 'yes' to every day and every situation no
matter what’ it might be. We may not understand why hard-
ship has come to us. Hardship may hurt us terribly and
cause us sleepless nights. The wrong thing, however, is
to run away from it. The right thing is-to say 'yes' to
it. .We must remember that hardship is part of life, the
life that God has made.

And if we accept hardship as part of God's plan for
us we will be able to live through it much more easily.
In fact, we will be able to look back on past hardships
‘and | ‘thank God for them. We will be able to thank God be-
cause we will discover that we have been made better
people and more like Jesus Christ because of them.

The ladies of All Saints Community Church held:
their Fall Rummage Sale, Bake Sale and Tea in the Centen-
nial Arena Lounge on Friday the twenty-seventh of Septem-
ber. I would like to express my sincerest thanks to the
ladies who brought baking and to the people of Cassiar for
their support of this event. Special thanks to those who
helped set up the Arena Lounge and to those who ran the
sale.

Is it not better not to send my children to Catechism or
any Sunday School and allow them to choose their own
religion later?

Many honest and sincere people believe this is the best .
way. People who send their children for religious for-
mation and who teach their children at home about God
and Jesus believe that they have a God given responsibil-
ity to raise their children in the knowledge that there
is a God who loves them and they encourage the child EO
respond to that love by loving God in return. ;

Is the Catholic Church changing? -

There have been many external changes in the Catholic
Church since the Second Council of the Vatican in the
early 1960s. Mass is now celebrated in the local
language, clergy life style has changed, attitudes have
changed, love is emphasized more than law, but no fund-
‘amental doctrines have changed.
