Editorial Letters to the Editor Entertainment by Paul Berard We gotta get to a higher place And I hope we all arrive together - Tom Petty, A Higher Place And arrive they did! Orientation day activities opened with plenty of students taking part and exploring their new,(or in some cases '‘old'), surroundings. Students partook of a vast range of activities and lectures all across the campus. Every- thing from the Open Houses to the Information Booth set up through the University's main halls to the Dunk Tank,(where many of the UNBC personalities made waves with students). Amidst the milling sea of humanity, I discovered Ray Zukanovich, the Student Orientation Co-ordinator, hiding out in the Student Services office, trying to get a bite to eat. "I'm afraid I'm going to eat through this," he said smiling, "It's been a busy day." I asked him about the upcoming activities and the expectations for the Orientation overall, a, "Well, the focus is primarily on the first year students, but the ‘veterans’ of the student body are welcome to come out as well. The orientation guide is essential to staying on top of the events which will be happening on, and in some cases, off campus. "We also have a broad range of clubs on campus which are available for students to join, and we do encourage those students who do not find a club which - ’ they would like to join to start their own." "Because the orientation activities last not just for a week, but for a month, we have tried to make them exciting in addition to being academic." Students can have a great deal to look forward to in the months to come, as the Student Services and Student social Services work to create a fun and enjoyable time for all in the coming Winter months. = do September 1495 Photo courtesy of the Communications Department Above, David Dowling, Chair of the English Department, catches up on some reading as he waits for his turn to come up at the dunk tank.
