V acatonall MATRON’S REPORT Miss Besse FRENCH When hours and days are ticked off by the sound of a bell, and work is routine, time passes very quickly. This has been a very eventful year, distinguished by a visit from the Governor-General, with all the attendant preparations and anticipations, and reaching the climax with a wedding, that of the Principal’s daughter, Miss Edith Raley. Already the holiday spirit is in the air, and preparations are being made for closing. A splendid school spirit has been manifest again this year, and we hope that the continual “line upon line” will have its effect in the lives of the pupils. Work in the departments has been very faithfully done, and no girl or boy who spends any length of time in a Residential School can ever quite get away from its influence. Several girls might receive special mention for duties carefully done, but perhaps the most faithful have been Mary Underwood, Florence Stanley, Alice Sepass and Kate Morgan. Stevens also deserve mention. Hazel Houstie and Peggy CULINARY DEPARTMENT Miss Y. BarLty Theory, 2 hours; Application 18 hours, weekly. Motto: “The hungry must be fed.” Another year has passed away, and we in Coqualeetza kitchen are still preparing tons of fruit, vegetables, fish and meats, along with miles of puddings, pies and cakes, to feed the hungry multitude. Thus the girls of the school, who do the cooking under the supervision of the Cooking mistress git practical training in every branch of culinary art. The girls who have earned special mention for good work this year are Hannah Douglas, Emily Leo, Pearl Rudland and Alice Percival, while those who have showed marked improvement are Rosalind Price, Gertrude Nelson, Kate Morgan and Olive Munro.
