A near record snowtall in
Cassiar over the New Years Holi-~-
day caused numerous revelers to
cancel or change plans. The
storm which dropped 20 inches of
snow over New Years Eve tied up
all but four wheel drive traffic.
Snow removal crews were able to
open the main streets but were
still busy Thursday opening up
the remainder of the side roads
and trucking out the snow.

Winter weather to date has
been much milder then usual with
only one cold snap that dropped
temperature readings to 30 below
or better. Snowfail has been
lighter then usual alltogether.

Environment Canada spokesman
indicated record snowtall for the
remainder of this year with high
er then normal temperatures.
