VIEWING ROOM: ; Open from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m. Accident on Stewart Hwy. Takes Life On September 23, 1974 at 4:00 p.m. there was an accident on the Stewart Highway, 45 miles from Cassiar. A large bus converted to a camper containing 13 passen- gers was crowded to the edge of the road. The soft shoulder gave way and the bus upset on its side in a 10 foot ditch. . Edward Sones of England was fatally injured in the accident and Claudia Dick of Saratoga, California, re- ceived minor injuries and was held in the Cassiar Hospit- al over night under observation. The group originated in Eugene, Oregon and have been travelling since gugust 11, 1974 as an education group. They travelled the Alaska Highway to points in Alaska and were returning to Eugene via the Stewart Highway. The group had stopped in Cassiar earlier in the day to make inquiries about Mine and Mill Tours. It is not known at this time as to how their journey: ‘will be completed. The Cassiar Ambulance was dispatched to pick up the injured.
