Scout and Guide Sunday was observed at Coqualeetza when Scout Leaders from Van- couver addressed the combined resident and visiting troops. The climax to a happy year of Guiding was the week-end spent camping at Cultus Lake, June 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. After an exciting trip to Lihumchian Falls we all felt qualified for membership in the Alpine Club. The Guides visited a fish hatchery and were shown fish in their_various stages of development and they learned also something of the work done by the Government in maintaining an adequate supply of salmon in the Northern waters. _ The outing proved thoroughly successful and it was a Company of weary but happy and satisfied Guides who hiked back to school when camping was over. First Aid One of the most potent factors in the development of the pupils was the course in Practical and Theoretical First Aid conducted by Mr. Ted Parkinson Provincial Secretary of the St. John’s Ambulance Association, Canadian Branch, for the girls, boys and members of the staff. The classes were held on Saturdays under the auspices of the Girl Guides. The girls deserve special commendation as twenty-nine out of a class of thirty-four passed the examinations conducted by Dr. W. E. Henderson, and received their Junior First Aid Certificates. Five members of the staff also received their Senior First Aid Certificates. The value of the course can only be estimated when one realizes the worth of a real “First Aider” in an Indian village. Senior First Aid Certificates: Mrs. B. MacKenzie, Miss J. Newington, Miss M. Nicklin, Miss A. Hockin, Miss M. Hopwood. Junior First Aid Certificates: Ruby Hoveli—Exceptionally good. Competition has been keen throughout and points have been awarded in all departments. classrooms and athletics as well as for voluntary service and initiative.
