Hunter licencing computerized —

Beginning in April, applicants for resident hunting licences will
have to present a Resident Hunter number card or C.O.R.E wallet
card to licence issuers in order to obtain a hunting licence.

Any versons who obtained a resident hunting licence in 1981 -
&2 will be mailed a personalized Resident Hunter Number Card
early in April. Hunters who do not receive a card and who do not
have a numbered C.0.R.E. card should apply through a Govern-
ment Agent's office or the Regional Fish and Wildlife Office. Applic-
ation may be made in person or by mail. In either case, the ap-

’ lication must be accompanied by a legally obtairied hunting li-

cence issued after the applicant's fourteenth birthday, or by a sworn
affidavit.stating that the applicant has previously held a valid hunt-
ing licence.

Taurus with Scorpio: This combination has a strong tendency to
bring irresistable physcial attraction initially, but as this dimin-
ishes, this can swing in the opposite direction unless there are ot-
her factors that the two of you have in common. Both of you are
jealous and possessive, which may bring about turbulent emotions

Taurus with Sagittarius: This combination shows much indiffer-

Concert Review

ance, not to listen to people in the audience talk during it. The
last two concerts in the Cassiar Concert Society series were largely
ruined for me because of people around me engaging in incessant
chatter. | suppose we are so used to music —- in elevators, stores,

planes and cocktail lounges -- as background noise to be talked

over that we've forgotten to listen to it. This rudeness isn’t con-
fined to Cassiar either. Earlier this year, | had the good fortune to

be in Vancouver for a meeting when the Vancouver Opera Society
was doing LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR; and | was able to get a—

good seat for the performance. But what my $24 ticket entitled.
me to, as it turned out, was the opportunity to listen to the man
directly behind me explain to his companion what was going on,

and what the performers were singing about — and not during ~

the breaks, but during. the actual performance. Such annoyance
does no good for my blood pressure; | think Ill have to give up
going to concerts.

Stringband is probably the best folk music group in Canada. They
have performed from coast to. coast to coast in this country, in
large concert halls and in small towns; and ‘they have been our
cultural ambassadors abroad. Their repertoire is almost entirely
Canadian; and it is performed with zest and skill, and an obvious
love for this country and its people. They remind us of the rich
fabric of music that. Canadians have woven; they celebrate the
beauty, the foolishness, the joy and the tragedy of the land. In
a day when it seems that most Canadians are eager to carve the
country up in their own self interest, and mutual accusations and
suspicians are hurled from region to region, east and west, north
and south, it is refreshing and encouraging to have a group like
Stringband that can draw our cultural and regional diversity to-
gether and present Canada as a whole that is greater than its parts.
It can be no accident that Marie-Lynn Hammond, whose talents as
a singer, instrumentalist, composer and playwright are the high

__ point of Stringband, comes from both English and French ancest-

ry, and in herself embodies both the diversity and the unity of
this country.

This concert was a rousing and enjoyable finale to the concert
season, It’s a pity that so few came out to hear it. | hear rumours
that there will be no concerts next year, because of poor ticket
sales this year; and | know that members of the Concert Society
feel let down when, after their hard work arranging a season and
mounting special events to underwrite its costs, people are at best
indifferent to what this hard work has brought them. As | say it’s
apity. Thank you Frank, and all members of the Concert Society,
for bringing us this concert season. May there be many more.
