YOUNG PEOPLE During this Lenten season the young people of All Saints Anglican Church and Our Lady of Lourdes Church will be preparing to hold a fast on the 27th and 28th of March. The purpose of this observance is to let our young people experience what it is like to be hungry. It will also lead them to a deeper appreciation of God's precious gift of food, which all of us so often take for granted. LENTEN MESSAGE In the early Church it was customary to observe with great devotion the days of our Lord's Passion and Resur- rection and to prepare for the same by a season of penitence and fasting. This season of preparation came to be called Lent. Lent is meant to renew and increase our committment to Christ's call. How ridiculously conventional and comfortable much of our churchgoing appears in the light of Christ's call. We turn up in church if the weather isn't too bad (for bad weather keeps us at home); we turn up if the weather isn't too good (for too good weather drives us into the country); we give our alms without premeditation and often without sacrifice. We slouch through the service listening sleepily, standing leisurely with hands in our pockets for the Creed and with scant attention to the hymns or prayers. During this season lets make a special effort to renew our committment to Jesus Christ both through regular worship and by letting Christ shine through us at work, at leisure and all our personal relationships. Peter B. Nissen Vicar COMMUNITY SUPPORT The Grade 4's would like to thank the whole com- munity for its unqualified support at their Skate-a- Thon. Saturday , February 2nd. The collections are coming in quickly with several people donating more money than they had pledged. When the collections are completed they will have achieved their goal and eag- erly look forward to April 4th. All the Skaters worked hard in the hour alloted to them, trying to make their 100 laps before the time ran out. During the ''Challenge Hour'' there were many "sights to behold'' from Ms. Florence Nightingale vs Dr. Longjohn to Father McAllister vs Rev. P. Nissen with their "Hot" potatoes that seemed constantly to elude them.
