During 1938, 138 patients were admitted and discharged from this little hospital, not including a large number of out-patients who came to the hospital for minor treatment. Eighteen babies made their world debut from its doors during the year. The year 1939 bids fair to be no less auspicious in the annals of the hospital. In the middle of January last a month-old baby suffering for nine days from pylonic stenosis The oberating room of the Outpost Hospital, McBride, B.C. was brought in by speeder from an outlying district. Although the child was in poor con- dition, a successful operation was performed with the result that the infant was soon on its way to complete recovery. Proud of their hospital, citizens of Mc- Bride have proved that the pioneering spirit still exists. “THE LIGHTER SIDE” THE ALEXANDRA Bridge Detachment is still laughing at an incident which took place last summer. The scene was the detachment office where a particularly frightened looking Indian, who had been picked up a short time previously for stealing money from a parked car, was being guarded by a junior constable pending his removal to the Hope lock-up. At this moment, evidently completely unaware that she was invading a police office, a pious woman of the missionary type bustled in, and, before anyone could move, made some remark about “coming salvation” and handed the prisoner a tract. Across the top of this, in bold red letters, were the very appropriate words, “How Shall We Escape the Coming Judgment?” Unfortunately for the prisoner, he did not escape the “Coming Judgment” but was given a jail sentence for his sins. On OATH Magistrate: “What is your age, madam?” Woman Witness: “Twenty-one years and some months.” Magistrate: “Just how many months? You know you are on oath.” Woman Witness: “A hundred and twenty.” BILL SMITH'S SMOKE SHOP Dependable, Fresh Stock —s— 42 Lonsdale North Vancouver, B.C.
