An They built it...and peo- ple came. On October 31, the UNBC Rugby Club’s 2nd annual Halloween Bash kicked- off at the sold-out Kinsman Hall, estab- lishing itself as the pre- miere Halloween event among University stu- dents in Prince George. The foundation of the event was put down back in September, when players, executive and supporters alike gathered to find ways of surpassing the hugely successful inaugural event from the previous year, and did they ever! Listening to the suc- cesses and shortcom- ings of the previous year, the organizers fine-tuned the plan and set the stage for a night to be remembered. An overwhelming response of corporate sponsor- ship in combination with the dedication of key organizers played into the success of the evening, keeping ticket and beverage prices JUNBC’s Indoor Soccer Team loses the battle, but the war Photo by Jeremy Fung s ON8c ® exe LING PROGRAH Evening Remembered By Ryan Greenfield, Media Liaison, UNBC Rugby/Football Club reasonable and provid- ing a safe and friendly environment for all peo- ple involved. When asked for their feelings about the evening, most people said that they had a blast and would definitely be back next year. With more than 350 people in attendance and many more waiting at the door, the night came alive with the free-flowing Pacific Western beer and other beverages, as well as music by Lightning Sound, who entertained endless encores, even in the early morning hours when the lights had come on. By the end of the night, the less sober members of the UNBC Rugby Club showed their apprecia- tion for such support by singing rugby songs and taking off their pants, putting yet anoth- er memory into the minds of those in atten- dance. To end the evening on to a safe note, the good people at ICBC and Laidlaw Transit provid- ed a free shuttle home. The members of the UNBC Rugby Club would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all supporters of the event and the team. The proceeds will be put toward a tour down the West Coast of the United States, where the team has _ high hopes of putting UNBC on the map as a rugby and beer-drinking power. Other proceeds will go toward a fledg- ling rugby scholarship program as well as junior development. With plans already in swing for next year’s event, there is talk of finding an even bigger venue. The UNBC Rugby/Football Club will be planning social events throughout the year, so keep your eyes open for further post- ings.
