Ryan h. Wugalter will Break Your Heart
Pop Bubbles Rise to The Top

Hip. indie scenesters and subter-
ranean music nerds alike will unite
in sonic delight at the Artspace on
Thursday, September 30th, when
Prince George’s own ryan h.
wugalter opens for Vancouver’s
Mark Browning, a.k.a. Ox, for a
benefit for CFUR 88.7 FM.

Browning, who was very well-
received at the recent Prince
George International Music
Festival, will be showcasing his
songwriter’s rocky folky country
tunes a la Neil Young; wugalter, a-
PG mainstay late of Chilliwack,
will be pumping out the pop he’s
known and loved for as his alter-
ego, jump rope for heart.

CFUR radio junkies will remem-
ber epiphany sounds, jump rope
for heart’s infectious debut.
Consisting of 10 pop-perfecto
gems, epiphany sounds was just
rough enough around the edges to
be recognizable as the work of a
bona fide bedroom autuer.

While that record featured an
imaginary band that wugalter
summoned up alone with a four-
track and a keyboard, the live ver-

sion is an acoustic rendition of
same with a.few newer works
tossed in for colour. That said,
expect no shortage of wugalter’s

lovable blend of sweetness, sar-
casm, personal confession, and
record-collector’s pastiche. wugal-
ter’s solo acoustic guitar and vocal
sets are every bit as engaging as
his recorded work.

Things are indeed looking
bright for the young wugalter. The
upcoming opening gig for Ox will
certainly strengthen his resume.
epiphany sounds climbed to a dizzy-
ing #162 on the Earshot! national
campus and community radio
charts over the summer on the
basis of its popularity on CFUR
alone.

wugalter is currently in the
process of putting together a jump
rope for heart band with live musi-
cians, a progression the possibili-
ties of which are immense for the
songwriter.

With fans eagerly anticipating
the release of a second album, it
seems that wugalter’s time to
shine has arrived. Will you be
