Friday, September 20th marked Prince George’s Annual “Take Back the Night” rally, an event that happens in cities across Canada to denote September as the official month of Prevention of Violence Against Women. About 200 womyn and children met downtown outside the court r If you're 12 to 25 Cypress Airlines will fly you at a special one-way stand-by fare of ... buildings at 7:00 PM to protest violence against womyn. They marched to Kids ‘R Us Daycare where they were joined by the group “Men Against Violence Against Women,” a group sponsored by the John Howard Society, and a few others. The womyn and children who had marched warmed themselves with hot chocolate and tasty food prepared by M.A.V.A.W., while thoughts, experiences, and facts about violence against womyn were voiced at an open microphone. The event attracted a greater turnout than last year; it was - estimated that this year’s Wo myn’ S Work by- Britt Arnet (Resource Person) march had approximately twice as many participants as it did in 1995. Take Back the Night was started up by the Canadian Association of Sexual Assault Centers and is coordinated in BC by the Vancouver Rape Relief & Women’s Shelter. And, in case you’re wondering, there’s a lot of other events coming up and going on at UNBC: The Women’s Center is organizing a candlelight vigil for Desember 6th; in memory of the fourteen women who were executed at L’ecole Polytechnique de Montreal. This is a major event for the University, and requires a lot of planning; we will be meeting very soon, to start to coordinate it. Anyone who would like to help is putting this year’s vigil together, please drop by and check for meeting times. This week is Sexual Wellness Week - watch for events and information.
