rage i6 HOWLS FROM THE HILL The weather in the Mine for the past month indicates that winter is indeed upon us. Generally the skies are overcast and the temperature below freezing all day. Some snow has accumulated. The above picture is taken a #6 switchback where the snow windrow is already 4-5' igh. This picture shows the #03 shovel on the initial stage of the development ramp down to 6230 level. The steel work is almost completed on the mine addition. Siding will be installed beginning in the last few days of October. The addition is comprised of 4 bays which will make a total of 6 bays a cas ee Ml SS ee ee eee es ee ee ee ee ee ee ee . Waste removal in September was above scheduled re- moval rates, however stripping has slowed down a bit in October mainly due to the initial development of 6230 bench. Once a good bench access: is completed. then waste stripping at or above normal schedules will resume. Signal lights have been installed on the 6260 road to control traffic from the shovels to the waste dump. At any one time, there could be up to six large haulage trucks plus service pickups, graders, etc. on this road. Cassiar is one of the few mines that are using this type of traffic control, but it would not be surprising to see this type of signal system used at other mines in the future. Development work is also being carried out on the 6100 road, which is the main access to the peak waste. This road is being widened to provide a good access for haulage trucks when waste removal is at that level, and also to remove waste that was left behind from the last mining phase. This photograph shows the widening of the road near the old 6100 dump. A picture of the loaded tramline bucket from the window in the operators office at the tramline discharge terminal. The speed of the tramline is constant, but the amount of ore in the buckets is regulated by the tramline operator who in turn is directed by the feed equirements of the new primary concentrator. ORE PRODUCTION Ore is presently being taken from 5750 level. Delivery to the Mill has been fairly good despite some minot "bugs" that had to be ironed out on the new tram- line and primary concentrator. However,’ one day the tramline brought down almost 6300 tons of ore which must be a record ore delivery. We are looking forward to a good month in November to increase the amount of ore i” the dry rock storage. EUROPE, Mr. Peter Steen and Mr. Marcel DeRouin recently made a trip to Europe and visited a few asbestos plants in Germany, Norway and Sweden. They were quite impress- ed with the cleanliness of the Kap Asbestos in Germany and the Nordenham plant in Norway and-‘no doubt have come back with some ideas on possible improvements for the Mill of Cassiar. 4
