One thing especially apparent is how elec- tronica is increasingly becoming a stage for remixing previous PRINGE GEORGE WWW. pemontysaver.be.ca/mangalis songs by original artists. Some remixes are good, some are not. It takes a discerning ear to pick out a few of the better candidates of remixes and compile them on a CD. Such is the case with Plastic 02. A great thing about electronica remixes is that they tend to revive older songs and expand the audience of newer ones to those who may not ever listen to a song otherwise. Take, for example, Sarah McLaughlan’s “Silence”. This is a well known song, but there are those who don’t care for the sensual slowness of Sarah's music. When Delerium gets ahold of it on the other hand, all of a sudden you have a great hit where the rave fans are listening to Sarah too! Such is the case with many, many more songs. ; Plastic Compilation Volume 02 consists of artists such as Fatboy Slim, Uberzone, elec- tronica poster boys BT and Sasha, and the British drum and bass sensation Roni Size. This is a great collection of electronica which can save you buying a bunch of CD’s if you just want the popular stuff, or if you are not into techno enough to pop into the local music store and grab a disc. Plastic Volume 02 is both a compilation and a documentary source of the electronica of the 90's. On the techno scene, Fatboy Slim is to be considered drum and base. The neat thing about techno music in general is that the majority of the songs are generated by one person. Amongst other things, this allows the DJ to work on aspects of their music which might bore other mem- bers of a band. When you are the only one however, you can work these fine points to even finer points. The end result, which is especially apparent in You've Come a Long Way Baby, is a finely polished style of music which lends interpreta- tion to only one person. Techno / Rave fans hold on now - Fatboy Slim is in the house and he left behind one great CD if you are not in the house live. You'll love the fast beats, the great mixes, and precise samples.
