He is one of those artists who you could say just seemed to fall into the musical per- former slot. A_ true Canadian, Lindy was born and raised in Winnipeg. Originally his family came to Canada from Iceland. Tragedy struck when he was thrown from a window of the house wherein his grandpar- ents burned to death when he was only three. Lindy eventually wound up touring the country in a yellow school bus with his brother, mother and father, all constructing an Icelandic folk singing group. At age fourteen, Lindy’s family moved to Victoria. The folk group ebbed off to an end while Lindy and his brother began _ to become more and more interested in punk rock. Two and two came together at age eigh- teen when the two of them formed a folk rock group titled “Northern Junk”. The band toured and performed for a total of five years before everyone else went on their own ways to pur- SIUIRIE] | SURE PRINCE GEORGE COPY CENTER 1077 - Sth Avenue, Prince George, BC V2L 5K5 Telephone: (250) 612-3855 - Fax: (250) 612-3911 High Speed Self-Serve Copies Only a? - Letter or Legal Full Colour Laser Copies 8 1/2” x 11” only - 1 Side - 75¢ Transparencies Cerlox Bindings - up to 1/2” - Black - $1.00 each - Full Colour - $2.00 - 1/2” to 2” - $1.50 - $2.25 Prices valid anytime with student ID Fax Service - Cerlox Binding- Laminating - Resumes - Rubber Stamps Colour copies up to 11x17 - Labels Printing - Desktop Publishing sue more conventional lives. In 1995, Lindy record- ed his first solo CD “Keeping Me Awake”. He sold this album off of the stage for a year, and then began to try and promote himself to record companies. Eventually, he realized that he was going to have to tour again (such is the way when trying to promote oneself) and moved to Toronto, where he was a bit more central to the industry. Only recently has Lindy moved to Montreal after touring the country several times over playing in various clubs, cafes and festivals. The ever unique sound of folk is the most apparent sound to the music which Lindy com- poses. The difference is in the beat and subtle rock undertones, hence the folk rock designa- tion. Sensual music and ballads which range from emotional to fun, Lindy sings from his heart, the way that he sees life. Take a chance and peer into his obscure life and check out this Canadian artist. He is sure to begin breaking ground soon, definitely on the way to success. -Kevin Milos B.B. King Blues On The Bayou (MCA/Universal) What can you say to another record by the King of the Blues? Lucille and Riley B. King have released over 20 select records since he first started recording in the late 1940’s. Approaching age 73, B.B. is still going strong, extensively touring and averaging over 250 con- certs a year internation- ally. B.B. is considered on no uncertain terms to be a sort of an ambassador to blues all over the world. Blues on the Bayou is definitely more of the same for B.B. King, and it’s exactly what every- one needs. The world will never tire of B.B. classic style. The differ- ence between it and for- mer albums is_ the apparent leisure which it is recorded with. Says B.B., “Recently I’ve felt the urge to go back to basics...whatever the reason, | wanted to sim- plify.”. He went down south with his band, set- tling into a state of the art studio in the country outside Lafayette, Louisiana. “The setting was kicked back; the feeling was down- home.” They “found some old B.B. King songs. Wrote some new ones. The record was cut in four days. All live, all real. No over- dubs, no_ high-tech tricks. Just basic blues.” “Just basic blues” is the most appealing part of the entire CD. With so many artists out there using technology to hype up all of their music, a disc like B.B.’s has such great appeal to just sit back and lis- ten to. It’s music in its unadultered form. The way it was meant to be. It's a perfect mix of tra- ditoinal blues, jazz, swing, mainstream popand jump into his own unique sound. Something which has taken B.B. years to per- fect. Lucille and B.B. make’ a great couple too.
