MINE DEPARTMENT Hard hats and safety toe boots must be worn by all personnel proceeding to the mine whether inside or out- side of vehicles. Visitors wishing to proceed to the mine must obtain permission from the office and the pass must be counter- Signed by the Mine Superintendent or his deputy. Visitors proceeding to the mine must be accompanied by a responsible official. Private vehicles wishing to use the mine road must obtain permission from the Mine Superintendent or his deputy. . Left hand driving is required on all mine roads. The speed limit on the mine roads is 30 m.p.h. for pickups, service vehicles, and cars, and 20 m.p.h. for man- haul buses and haulage trucks. Do not follow closer than 100 feet behind another ve- hicle. Use extreme caution when passing. Always yield the right of way to manhaul buses and haulage trucks; except where there is ample room, pull to the side and stop when meeting trucks and buses. Turn your headlights on under conditions of poor visi- bility such as blowing snow, rain, or fog and proceed with caution. STOP if you cannot see a safe distance ahead. Traction conditions will vary greatly between the plantsite and the mine and may change rapidly. Drive ac- cording to the condition of the road. If traction conditions become dangerous, STOP. Watch for tractors and graders cleaning roads - look up slopes. When in the vicinity of heavy equipment, be alert - look around you - engine noise makes moving equipment difficult to hear. Watch for rocks falling from thawing walls in the pit. Be sure walls are safe before working next to them. Trucks and portable compressors are equipped with chocks which must be properly placed before leaving such equipment unattended. Do not operate any equipment unless authorized to do so and do not permit unauthorized persons to ‘try out’ the equipment in your charge. The safety precautions listed under the mill depart- ment are to be observed at the crushing and rock rejec- tion circuits at the mine. Make use of the safety belts and 9
