A Point of View ~ by Don Campbell Some time ago I complained about the lack of voiunteers in this town in regards to community involvement. I must have hit a sore nerve because I had a num- ber of comments on the article, it was reprinted at the request of some local mothers of hockey players. I have not changed my mind, as stated in that article. I do however have great respect tor two groups of volunteers in this community that quietly go about donating a great deal of time and effort with very little recogni- tion. They are the Fire Fighters and the First Aid volunteers. Between them, they provide hund- reds of hours of dedicated time on behalf of every citizen in Cassiar. So at least from my point ot view, HATS OFF TO ALL OF YOU, and congratulations for a job well done! k * * Another one of my ongoing beefs is our Northern Justice Circus. I sat in court again last month to watch the wheels of justice as they slowly turned. In fact, in some cases they turn- ed so slowly that by the time, or RMA KERR HH Che fifth ore sixth) tame, that they got into court, the judge throws the case out. I am begin- ning to wonder if our Charter of Rights and Freedoms was written, A: by a judge that needed excuses not to hear cases or, B: by a lawyer who case. never won a Ki eae ae I was reading an article the other day about a community that finally decided to fight the Canada Post Corporation over the closing of the local Post Office. At a community meeting they voted overwhelmingly to boycott any business that was prepared to open a Retail Postal Outlet on a contract basis. The Corporation is closing hundreds of post of- fices by this method. Hats off to the ratepayers of Enficld, Nova Scotia, these people have backbone!
