Student Erin Kinghorn, a fourth year Po- litical Science Student has recently been awarded the Scotia Bank Award of Ex- cellence, a national prize honouring a university or college student who had made an extrodinary contri- bution to the school or com- munity. "I'm thrilled about it," she said. Kinghorn, who was nomi- nated by the Social Pro- grammer of Kwantlen Col- lege, in Richmond, felt the award was doubly impor- tant because this is the award's first year. "It's nice to see UNBC is setting standards at the na- tional level." "This is the first year the award's been given out," she added. The award recognizes her Confessions of an Over the -by Manpreet Sidhu part in establishing the UNBC Student Society. She is now the Director of Social and Promotion and does free campus tours on Sundays. Kinghorn was also ap- pointed as one of 10 students on a student advisory board which will advise Scotia bank on financial issues re- lating to students. Erin will be travelling to Toronto to receive the award. Notification of the award was presented to her at the recent National Conference of the Canadian Organiza- tion of Campus Activities (COCA). "I'm thrilled about it. Think it's a huge honor," she said. Excellence, Edge Editor. . . (?) I must confess, I am not an Edgy Editor, at least not anymore. Too many poli- tics. Now I just do the same job without the nifty title. Amazing how by my own choice I chose to put up with the same shit from the same people issue after issue. Production is one thing, Editorial is another, and the current editor's wages aren't enough encouragement for this UNBC student to put up with the "freaks" that call themselves newspaper people. Unfortunately the freaks aren't much different than those calling them- selves academics. At least that's the case at this fine learning institution. Both parties seem more con- cerned with making sure their noses are brown and they never venture into the realm of the politically in- correct. I say if you're go- years of my life. ing to assume the title take the grief that goes with it. Of the two titles I would rather be considered an academic. Imagine dedicating one's life for the purpose of being bright, wonderful, and excit- ing. I am sure that one day pigs will "really fly” and someone will, with their the- sis on the concept of creation as seen in all five books of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, pass. Sure. . . and one day the Edge will be- come a real paper with staff writers and editors that actu- ally do their work on time. At least I am honest when I say, "I don't think that's my ideal way to spend the ‘best Instead I choose to ponder the thought that the next se- rial killer could be sitting next to me in English 300, or even better that same person could be looking back at me Erin Kinghorn the winner of the Scotia Bank Award of ’ that up to the Bright Lady and STAFF CREDITS ' EDITOR(S) "I'm not sure we really have any...want the job?" Personally I think they are just waiting to be asked some- thing they actually know, so they can shine for a moment or two. After all that is a true human inclination, one of which even I a mere student share. If you have a question or comment why then damn- it don't you just ask! On that note, layout seems to be lagging and another deadline looms on my _hori- zon.
