October 7 - 13th being National Fire Preven-
tion Week, we feel it is appropriate to congrat-
ulate our Volunteer Fire Department for the
tremendous job they do here in Cassiar.

Our Fire Department consists of sixteen vol-
unteer members, headed by Fire Chief Kinky
Borsato. These volunteers meet every Monday
evening to check equipment, view films, and
to learn as much as ‘Possible about fire fighting.

SAY pase iSaents always seems as if the public is unaware of the u

risks involved. This newspaper has frequently
published articles about the public’s- reaction to
-atocal fire — mainly to rush to the scene as soon
as possible. In spite of the dangers of this prac-
tice being pointed out, curiosity still prevails. If
you are not concerned about the danger to your-
selves, PLEASE spare a thought for the victims of |
a fire and for the firefighters.

We are extremely fortunate to have a Fire De- i

partment such as ours. Our firefighers have a
great respect for people's property. It is grat-
ifying to see that even though a fire has been ex-
tinguished promptly, it has been done with min-
imal damage other than that cuased by the fire
CAPTAIN. itself. We owe the department a huge vote of
