This year is sure to be an exciting one. Over the Edge is celebrat- ing its Super Sweet Sixteen. While we will not be receiv- ing a new BMW nor having Jay Z play at our party, We do have some ex- citing things lined up for the upcoming year. You might notice some new faces around here, too! An- drew, our much loved former EIC, has graduated and | have happily taken his place. Also, our former Busi- ness Manager Stephanie McCullough and our Photo Page 2 Editor, Aria Cheng, have also moved on to bigger and better things. While we will miss them dearly, we are also happy to introduce some new team members! As you are reading this now, | am sure you have noticed that the paper looks a little different! At the end of last semester we decided to go with a different printer than we have in the past. This new printer is not only environmentally friendly, it is also more cost efficient. | hope you like the changes! This issue of OTE has been in production all summer in or- der to make it the best one yet. | hope that you enjoy read- ing it and that you all don’t get too drunk on this first week back to school. And remember, we are still hiring for a few positions! If you would like to be a Sports Editor or a Pro- duction Coordinator send your resume, a Sample of your work, and a cover letter to over-the-edge@unbc.ca. - She/ OY Petersen Over the Edge is the _ official indipendent publishing me- dia of students at the University of Northern’ British Columbia. CUP is an organization that is entirely owned and operated by member papers, and provides such services as a news wire and advertising to Over the Edge. Over the Edge is published ev- lery second week during the fall and winter semesters. Meet the Team This year Over the Edge is practically a brand new paper with only four original staff members returning. Here is an introduction to both the new and the old members of Over the Edge. Helen Hogeterp, Copy Editor Greetings UNBC masses! I’m back again for another semester here as the copy editor for OTE. | edit spelling, grammar, and make sure that the content makes sense. Sometimes it’s a big job, other times it doesn’t take much. Opinion articles receive a lighter touch.Previously, | was Arts & Life Editor at The Cascade, the university newspaper for University lof the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford for a couple of years, and a staff writer there before that. Last September | transferred to UNBC to complete my Bachelor of Arts in English and Environmental Studies.| look forward to editing all of your submissions! Bring it on! Kali Flick, Business Editor Before becoming our Managing Editor, Kali was our General Office Assistant. After the Managing spot was vacated, Kali stepped up to the plate and learned the ropes associated with filing taxes, making a budget and watching iour money. Although Kali is not a business student, you would never know it because she handles her job like a seasoned pro. In addition to making sure we don’t spend too much money, Kali also contributes to leach issue. Last year, she was our resident Carrie Bradshaw with her bi-weekly Sex and the City column. This year, however, she has chosen to forgo the girly drama in favour of a more serious opinion column. Darcie Smith, Arts Editor Welcome back to the great Beast on the hill! Here’s hoping that your summer was awful enough to instill joy in your hearts at the thought of writing more papers. I’m your new Arts Editor, and I’m hoping that | can do the position the justice it deserves. In all seriousness, | am terrified. | don’t consider myself a “writer”, nor do | believe hat my opinions are great enough to be shared with any one else. Despite this whole “writing an introductory article about myself’ thing being my idea, it is surprisingly difficult. What to say? How should | best describe myself and what | am about without sounding pretentious or self-absorbed? The solution: embrace it. I’m an aspiring librarian, urrently working away (slowly) at my undergraduate degree in English. Ecaterina Ciugureanu, Features Editor Oh Hello! My name is Ecaterina Ciugureanu (pronounced Chugureanu, kind of like Che Guevara) and this is my 4" year at UNBC. After an inspiring trip to the circus, | had vivid hopes of becoming a Chinese acrobat, but somehow ended up at UNBC, majoring in Psychology. My personal interests include Polaroid cameras, animal rights activism, music, land like Hunter S. Thompson said, “the good life, whatever it is and Whatever it happens to be.” | will be bringing you random tid-bits lof everything as a Features Editor. Now let’s all have a wonderful year! Over the Edge 6-350 3333 University Way Prince George, BC V2N 429 PHONE (250)9605633 FAX (250)9605407 over-the-edge@unbc.ca Grace Waddelll, Photo Editor I’m fairly boring. | like to read good books and pet barnyard animals. | have lived in Prince George for my whole life and | only travel to reassure myself that | like it here best. We have great nature, an excellent local music scene and a variety of cool restaurants. At UNBC | am a fourth year History/English major] which | Know is basically useless. | also like knitting, cooking land putting fake wood craft paper on stuff to make it classier. Hanna Petersen, News Editor Albert Einstein once said that “information is not knowledge.” A fact that | only know because | googled it. But Einstein raises a good point, he was a very smart man after all. As your new news editor, | will set out and make it my mission to turn the information floating out in the atmosphere into relevantly knowledgeable readable bits of news or something like that. Although, | must warn you that | am nowhere near as intelligent as Albert Einstein, it might have been a small oversight beginning with a slight comparison o one of the most distinguished men that ever existed. | am currently beginning my third year and pursuing a degree in Political Science and English. Well | hope we have a great year here at UNBC and Over the Edge. Want to be a part of our team? Send a copy of you resume, a cover letter, and three writing samples to over-the-edge@unbc.ca with the subject line APPLICATION. Good luck, and we look forward to hearing from you!
