Page 8 May 1985 Cassiar Couier “The Wild, Wild West” The “Wild, Wild West’’ was the i for the 6th . a Annual Blue Valley Figure Skating Carnival, presented by. i it’s fifty-nine members on April 22. The highlight of a very entertaining carnival was the guest appearance of Brad. McLean from the North Shore Winter Club in Vancouver. Brad is 21 years old and in 1979 placed first in the Canadian Novice Class. He repres- ented Canada in the Junior World Championships in 1 980 and in 1981 placed second in the Canadian Junior Cham- pionship. During 1982 he attended Senior Men’s com- petitions throughout the world, placing 8th in West Ger- many, 10th in France and 3rd in the Australian National Competition. Just recently, in the 1984 Canadian pegicn Men’s Championships he placed 7th. The show began with a Square Dance on Ice by the ‘Seniors and Intermediates. The Junior Girls as “Nuggets” ‘and the Junior Boys as “Miners” skated to North to Al- aska, Pamela King, Jenny Pewsey and Tracey Walker, _as gunfighters, did a routine to Theme from-Bonanza and Seniors Nicole Deyo, Stephanie Slana and Cassandra Suth- erland as lawmen skated to The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. The Juniors and Intermediates performed. a Gam- bler routine, the Seniors did a Can Can line and the Tots and Beginners did a routine to The Squaws Along The Yukon. Six of the Intermediates were Dance Hall Girls in Money, Money, Money. Solo performances were Janice Coran as Calamity Jane, Tina Cvetkovich danced to The Ballad of Cat Balou, Jackie. Roblin as Mae West, Joanne Coran danced to Can Can, Sheri Zebroff as Annie Oakley and Jackie and Mary Molan did a duet as Cattle Annie and Little Britches. The Club pro, Sheri Poirier, also performed a solo. The Carnival ended the sixth season of figure skating in Cassiar and a special thanks goes to Sheri Poirier, the Club Pro, and the Club executive for another successful year, Pauline Woodrow, as Carnival Chairman, and all the volunteers, are to be commended for the excellent job they did in putting together a great Carnival. A wind-up luncheon was held on April 13 for the skaters and their families. Certificates and badges were presented and a new executive was elected: Lee Coran, President, Shirley Howard, Vice-president, Linda Cameron Secretary, Carol Deyo, Treasurer, Sonja Slana, Test Chair- man, Fiona Carew, Badge Secretary, Ellen Erickson and Cheryl Davies, Directors. The Club is losing two very active members this year. Diane Zebroff, who has been president for the past two years, and Debbie Conley, Ways and Means, are both moy- ing South. Good Luck to both families in their new loc- ations.
