REPORT ON PART OF THE DISTRICTS OF POUCE COUPE AND GRANDE PRAIRIE, BRITISH COLUMBIA In order to Lind suitable lanés for returned soldiers, as weli as all other intending settlers ané to insure that ianés not offering a fair chanee for successful settiement he excluded, survey parties from the Topegraphiesl Surveys Branch have been, since 1218, engaged on the investigation ani classification of Bom- inion iancs in the Peace River Gistriet. The exanina- tions were so planned as te meet the requirements of the returned soldier first, and as the restrictious on setiiement were gradually removed, to make the informa~ tion cbtained availeble for all settlers. During the season of 1921, this work wes eon= tinueé in the western portion of the Grande Prairie @istricst and in the Pesee River Elock. From tae information furnished by this survey, reports and maps have been prepared showing not only the various clagses of agricultural lands but alse the resources of the districts. The maps show the principal topogrephicai features, roads and trails, existing settle- ments, contours, etc., So coloured and arranged as to make each feature stand out by itself. fhe information collecteé will in Gue course be made available to the publie through the lecal Dominion iané offiees for the districts. Copies of the maps can elso be obtaineé by application te the Tevegraphical Sur veys Branch. : Senersi, Location. ~ fhe eountry dealt with herein Lies in the southeast portion of an ares known eas the “Peace River Bloek™ comprising three and one-helf miliion acres in the northerly part of British Columbia adjaeent to Al— berta and may be deseribeé as that land bounded on the north by the fease and Kisketinaw rivers, on the south by the south boundary of the Peace River Block and exe tending from the east boundary of range 13 to the east boundary of range 19. It aise ineludes an area situated in the western part of the Grande Preirie district viz townships 69 to 75, range 12, west of the Simth meridian. OF Breese ~ The area €escribed above which forms part of the Peace River Block is generally called the Pouce Coupe district after the well known and fairly extensive prairie (now a thriving settlement) of that name.
