The track team has also done very well, Participating in three meets. The Vancouver Technical School sent its athletic representatives to open the season and succeeded in winning a very close decision 47-32. C. Mahone for the home team in winning the half mile probably turned in the most spectacular perfor- mance while E. An Athletic Club was formed to have a controlling interest in their program for the season. The officers of the club were: President, Principal G. H. R. Raley; First Vice-President, Miss E. MacKay; Second Vice-President, Alice Sepass; Chairman, Miss D. Milsom; Secretary, Ruth Castle. Basketball has proved one of the most interesting phases of their athletics and the team has shown very favorable progress during the season. Being the first year the team received regular training no league was entered but several practice matches were arranged. The track team has done exceptionally well this year. The members of the team are to be compli- mented on the faithful and enthusiastic manner in which they have undertaken their training. Miss Campbell in the earlier part of the season coached the girls in basketball, Mr. Williams in the latter part of the season. Mr. Williams was the girls’ coach for general athletics. GIRLS’ BASKETBALL The basketball season is over now and looking back, it has been quite successful. Although the girls’ success has not been apparent in actual scores, at least they have made good progress in basketball ability. If they show as much improvement each year as they have this year, the future success of their team will be assured. We began practices late and had just one when we received a challenge from St. George’s School, Lytton, for the following week. Although most of our girls had never played basketball before, while the Lytton team has been established for several years, we accepted the challenge. It is needless to say Lytton won the game with little effort, but our girls practiced hard for the return game in the spring. During the Olympiad, however, while not winning, Coqualeetza showed marked improvement. Now the girls are looking forward to strenuous and hard fought games with outside teams next year. Seventeen
