Thank you for providing such a wonderful forum for our university! Newspapers and maga- zines take a lot of work, so I can under- stand how the photograph of someone tailing “cocaine” off of the Book of Deutromony could have worked its way into the March 1st 2006 issue of _Edge Magazine. As part of the Torah and the Holy Bible, Deutromony is sacred to both Jews and Christians, and its desecration (simu- lated or otherwise) is a blasphemy, an insult, and an attack, Of course you and your staff are al- ready aware that anti Semitism and Christianophobia can hurt people as badly as people can be hurt. For that reason, I assume that the person who desecrated that Scripture did so un- intentionally, that the photographer was also unaware, that the editor who included the picture did so without examining it closely enough, and that the printers and distributors took no notice of it. There is no way that, as the photograph made its way to press, there was any recognition whatsoever of what it depicted. The staff of Edge Magazine and Over the Edge respect their Christian and Jewish classmates far too much for that picture's publica- tion to be intentional. I know that you would never knowingly cause the kind of hurt seeing that picture could cause some people. These things do have a way of slipping in. I have one question to ask. Could you please never again print any images of desecrated Scripture? I recognize that it was an accident, but I would appre- bling for your QPENROAD TOYOTA DESTINATION TOYOTA RICHMOND 7 BURNABY Richmond Auto Mall ANB Lougheed Highway (G04) 273-3766 4604): 291-8122. Even though I am sure that the printing of the photograph was an ac- cident, I would not want to see my own work appear in the same publication as anything like it. If such a thing were to happen, I would never be able to show the publication to any of my Jewish or Christian friends or family. I would never let them see anything like that.
