The hunter may find this an- imal anywhere in the sporting regions of British Columbia and in abundan’ce in parts of Alberta. Good hunting at all times, it is popular with big- game men. One day a Game Warden came upon our friend and asked to see his license. It was produced and proved to be one year overdue. When this was pointed out to the hunter, he raised a very strong objection. “Why,” he told the amazed Game Warden, “that license is good for two years. “Tt says so right there in the top corner.” The Game Warden had to put him right and, of course, ignorance of the law is never an excuse for violation of that law. Girt Proves GuILt On another occasion, Mr. Butler recalls, one of his men suspected that a hunter had shot some birds out of season and had do- nated the birds to a friend. The Game Warden just walked up to the house where it was believed the birds were stored. A woman answered the door. “Could you let me have those birds that Mr. X brought in here today?” the Warden asked politely. “Why, certainly,” the woman answered. She entered the house, brought out the birds and just handed them to the Warden, who stood there open-mouthed at the success of his little strategy. But such little incidents are taken in the every-day course of events. These slight occurences can never alter the fact that a mighty large and important task confronts the men who are always on the job. They must guard the big game of the Cariboo and the Cassiar and the Kootenays. They look toward the wild fowl of , Cariboo and Chilcotin Districts and m, also keep a weather eye throughout ; golden Okanagan Valley, where some of t best pheasant shooting is recorded. Over on Vancouver Island are thousap of blue grouse, and in almost every corp of British Columbia are found willow a ruffled grouse in plentiful quantities, The economic aspects of this game pla ground must not be overlooked.
