A thriving settlement is found in the Pouce Coupe prairie, also considerable land has been taken up, chiefly by returned soldiers, on the westerly side of the Kiskatinaw river in townships 78 and 79, ranges 17 and 18. The second area which is situated west of and forms part of the Grande Prairie district, lies entirely within the Smoky river basin and is drained through the Redwillow and Beaverlodge rivers into the Wapiti, the main tributary of the Smoky. This area with the exception of township 71-12, is rolling country and with good natural drainage. The land in township 71-12 although situated at a considerably higher altitude than either the Kedwillow to the gouth or the Beaverlodge to the north, is level country largely coverea@ with spruce and tamarack swamps.
