Loss Will Be Felt By Many RALF VOSS January 2, 1958/August 15, 1987 Ralf was born and raised in Cassiar and except for some time spent out at school lived his life here. He is survived by his wife Margaret, his Mom and Dad, Karl and Hilde of Parksville, sisters Renata of Chilliwack, Jutta of New Haz- elton, Margaret of Cassiar and brother Peter of Dease Lake. Ralf spent a great deal of his time here involved with the community, starting at a young age as an alter boy for Our Lady of ‘Lourdes Catholic Mission. As a boy Ralf was also active with Cubs, Scouts, Minor Base- ball and Minor Hockey:s. He also served on the student council at the Cassiar Secondary School. After returning to Cassiar from college, Ralf played centrefield for the Sliders base- ball club for eight seasons and has coached T-Ball for the past four seasons. He also played fastball and served one term as the president of the Cassiar Senior Slow Pitch league. Ralf curled for most of his life. He served on the executive of the curling club as the drawmaster for two seasons and President for the 1986-87 season. Ralf had been a member of the C.C.C. executive for the past year, a shop steward in Local 6536 for two years, has served on the ambulance crew as an attendant and was a member of the Cassiar Mine Rescue team for four years. ; It is not often that the loss of one man can be felt throughout the. community, but in Ralf’s case this is certainly true. The man was always busy helping people. Time. will heal the pain of Ralf’s death but it will not dim the memories of his life. Al-| though it is difficult to accept the fact that] Ralf will no longer be a part of our lives, we | know his spirit will live on with everyone who knew and loved him. A memorial fund in Ralf’s name has been set up through the Royal Bank in Cassiar until October 15, 1987. All donations will be sent to the Child- rens Hospital of British Columbia. THE BUSH CREW L to R: Kevin Dennis, Lyndon Johnny, Jack Chief, George Dennis and Glen McLean head out to slash trails. “Ski-Trac” will see the improvement of the var- ious Cross Country ski trails in and around Cassiar, which will include eliminating the various mud spots, cutting bunny trails around the major hills, building emergency shelter shacks, restoring the existing cabin on Ptarmigan trail and colour coding each trail. The McDame Ski Hill will also be upgraded. The Aurora Arts and Crafts Centre will be re- novated inside and out. It will become Cassiar’s Arts and Cultural Centre, housing the local visual and per- forming artists as well as affording the community a suitable arena for various Arts and Cultural events. Project manager, Lorraine Lanteigne, and her staff of ten have the work well underway, both at the Arts and Cultural Centre and on the trails. The dur- ation of the program is seven months.
