The next meeting will be held on June 5, 7:30 p.m. in the Centennial Lounge. Outdoor enthusiasts are reminded to come out and support the club. | HUNTING AND FISHING STORY CONTEST .... Remember when the A.S. announced a HUNTING AND FISH- ING STORY CONTEST sponsored by the Rod & Gun Club - that was in the September issue. Well, it's now April and ‘the winner of the contest has been announced. . Bill ''carp-to-carp wal let- ing'' Dobie was presented with a trophy during the recent Rod & Gun Club meeting. Hon- ourable mention went to Tom Soukup on his story about the ''kidney-kid'' bear. The delay in presenting the trophy which many people have almost forgotten was due to a combination of ‘difficulties. The judges ‘had to decide, there was a tle; trophy was ordered; and the frequency of this publication, were just some of these problems. For those who are left wondering just — how the stories read, we are reprinting both below. It seems that the hero of our story was a very clever .young man who had studied hard at school and. now was attend- ing university to become an electrical engineer. He was spending his summer vacation visiting his family up north on the reservation. He reached into the water again in an attempt to grab the wallet from the carp's mouth, but just as his fingers were about to grasp the wallet the carp passed it to anoth- er carp. After several hours, he finally was able to grasp his wallet and to his great relief retrieved it. After arriving back at school he was talking with some of his fellow students and they all related where they spent their vacations, tion he went down to the river What they did, and so on. to fish. Fishing and huntina were the things he loved to do. While standing on the»river bank he noticed a number of large carp swimming idly around and he bent over to get a better look at them. As ‘he did so, his wallet which was in his shirt pocket, fell into the water, and it was very important that he retrieve it - because it contained all his plane tickets and money to ao back to university.
