sit around on Thursday night and watch ER while conversing over a good Potluck meal. They need more. But we will most certainly yield to the fact, that because so many of our floormates decided to consume alcoholic beverages at the same time, and in such quantity, it does leave the possibility of alcohol poisoning. Case in point, the unfortunate individual who was taken to hospital over consumption. However again, Mr. Yim, I believe your information is - confused. This individual was attended to immediately by multiple RA’s, including Dave (N302) and at least. « two Commisionaires. Her state was addressed immediately, and the appropriate action taken. I would like to note that this woman was the only mishap in the entire event, and at that, she did not even live in Student Housing. Just one question for you Mr. Yim. Why is it that you have not written an Editorial about the “alcoholic orgy” that occurred on Saturday night on the first floor of Residence I? This was another floor social event, this one sanctioned by _ the housing department, and organized mostly by the residents therein. It is our belief that if you were to describe that event, it would have been much harsher than the review you have unfairly given BReaiLSs our floor. Things were “so out of control, there was even alcohol in the hallways”. I wonder Mr. Yin, if it is possible you are jealous that you don’t live on our floor? On a closing note Mr. Yim, we invite you to approach both of us, in person, to voice your concerns in future. Maybe we can come toa better understanding together of what Residence Life should be. We.are sorry that your perception of Residence Life has changed forever Mr. Yim, however if an event that was held on our floor that terminated *before 10:00pm* on a Friday night disturbed you this much, maybe you should not be living here any more. Tim & Dave Res I North 302 P.S.- Just so you are made aware of it in advance Vince, our next event will be a fundraiser for the sobbing towel you so desperately need. i Over the Edge Feb. 07,1996 PABE I | And in this corner... _OK...deep breath......count to ten...1...2...3...eh, good enough. = a a ata, St ei ls» | pa i } 4 Now that you’ve succesfully shot my. credibility to hell (thanks a lot, guys), I'd like to defend myself. I should have seen this coming. The editorial that you. read was one of many editions, rewrites, and revisions, printing the revised edition after receiving your response would shoot the journalistic integrity of “Over the Edge” straight to hell and never to return, I guess I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place. (I’m starting to feel really glad that I didn’t run through third floor at 6:00AM with a pot and a pan with bag over my head, banging the pot and pan together and making enough noise to wake the dead). Well, after succesfully calming down and re- reading your rebuttal, I’d have to say I’m shocked. I’ve never had but since any of my written pieces shredded so badly before. The closest I'd have to say was my Grade 11 English teacher. Needless. to say, I didn’t like her very much. But enough of that. You managed to counter what I had fo say, now it’s my turn. First of all, 1 am very aware of the facts. I know very well that the Housing Department, Security, and Residence Council didn’t endorse this. Any person in authority would have to be completely reckless to actually promote something like this. It’d be like giving a criminally insane inmate the keys to the world’s nuclear arsenal. The fact I was trying to get across was that they allowed this to happen. They didn’t go around telling people to participate, but they didn’t bother putting a Meath | dale 4 stop to this. In other words, they basically said, “Have fun, try not to break anything, if you do, you’re paying for it. Ifyou get sick that’s your own fault.” ‘And since you have given everyone else the impression that I have no life and I practically live for floor potlucks and ER on Thursday nights, I’d also like to say that parties are fun. When I do get the chance to attend them, I manage to enjoy myself, even though people are getting completely drunk left right and centre. Oh, did I mention that I don’t drink either? | That would probably be one reason (among others) why I was against this activity in particular. Residence activities are fun. I know that just as much as anyone. When it gets to the point that people get sick and run the risk of dying, that’s where I draw the line. Is spending the entire day slagging your way through the next day with a massive hangover your idea of fun? Some people thought the event itself was fun. But if I was the one that was puking my guts out, so passed out that I can’t even remember who I met, then I’d be really hard pressed to say that I had a good time. And here’s a counter to your remark about the first floor party Disco party. I went down there to give a copy of my Floor cont'd on page 12
