izations and public speaking classes
there are still thousands to whom
the thought of making a speech in
public is a nightmare; something
they would rather face a firing squad
than do.

cial Police Force addressing a club
luncheon, Board of Trade, Chamber
of Commerce or a school group is
all in the line of duty. :

The men of the force are encour-
aged to do so with respect to safety
and public service.

B.C. Police To Get Plane

THE B.C. Provincial Police Force
will become air-borne for patrols
along the indented waterways of the
coast.

Arrangements are now being made
for purchase of a De-Haviland Beaver
seaplane.

It will be used for investigations
and law enforcement along the long
reaches of the coastal waters supple-
menting the launch patrols now in
operation.

The police are the third depart-
ment of the provincial government
to purchase their own planes for gov-
ernmental use. Both public works
and lands departments have their
own machines.

Forestry service uses planes ex-
tensively in fighting fires but they
are private machines on charter.

force are aimed at a more direct ap-
proach to enlist the aid of the gen-
eral public.

Motion pictures and film slides
add entertainment as well as instruc-
tion to the talks.

Among other things emphasized in
the talks are the points that the task
of the police is more preventive and
educational than punitive; that mere
detection of crime and violation of
regulations is by no means the prin-
cipal task of the law enforcement
agency. Far better to prevent than
punish.
