a 1. /ยง ABSTRACT AND RECOMMENDATION This brief provides an overview of the company's asbestos Mine-milling operations at Cassiar, British Columbia. The nature Be the contaminants discharged, their control measures, and capital expended for environmental upgrading is presented. A summary of monitoring data obtained in recent years demonstrates that progressive improvement is being achieved. Not all areas at the Cassiar operations, however, meet the existing Beer Bs Level A Objectives. Upgrading of these areas is still in progress. It is our opinion that the existing Pollution Control Objectives for the Mine-milling industry are sufficently stringent to meet the requirements of the Pollution Control Act, 1967. As no specific Asbestos Objectives have yet been set, it is our recommendation that consideration be given to adoption of a Level A emission Objective of 2 fibres per cubic centimeter, the limit recently adopted by Environment Canada.
