Having lit- tle or no information on this club | had no idea what to expect. Rumours that they were Canadian Security Intelligence Service agents, or a militia group from the States turned out to be com- pletely wrong. And here | was sitting in my 007 outfit in the middle of a group of normal students. Anyhow, the Security and Intelligence Club is really an academic study group. There is a solid core of 8-10 people who attend the regular Monday: evening meetings, with a further half-dozen members on their contact list. The meeting began with organization; the group is a socially oriented club and they were planning a few events such as a lasertag night and a pub crawl. It then progressed to a discussion of recent events in the Security and Intelligence world. The term security and intelligence is actually a catch-all phrase, it includes defence, law, ter- rorism, environmental degre- dation, human rights, and transnational organized crime. This particular session included some recent CIA events as well as a little debate on the Hell’s Angels. The club members are gen- erally interested in careers involving law enforcement, customs, or working with the foreign service. They are well versed in the goings on in the Canadian system of security and __ intelligence. Paul Christian, the director, along with several other members, explained what CSIS and the Communication Security Establishment are, and what they do. They also explained the relation between these services, and the groups in the US and Britain. Anyone who is interested in getting in touch with the group can email Paul at chrip000@unbc.ca The weekend of March 6, the UNBC Men’s Rugby Club traveled to Vancouver to play three playoff rugby matches. Twenty-five players and the coach, Bob Ormond, left Prince George on Friday March 6. On Saturday we played against Trinity Western University, a private university with a superior rugby program, we fought a hard battle. Unfortunately we lost 42-12. This was our first time on a field since our last game back in October, so it took us a half before we were used to playing togeth- er. By that time they had taken advantage of our lack of playing time, and they took the lead. The assistant coach of Trinity Western said “UNBC is the hardest hitting team that his squad has ever faced.” Sunday, March 8, at 8:00 AM, we met Douglas College on the pitch. This was the team that left us stranded in Prince George last October, so we were out for revenge. Under wet conditions, we played with great intensity and defeated them 17-15. This win is the first intercolle- giate win for any UNBC team, so we are very proud of that fact. We beat them on the ball almost every play; we played a hard, disciplined game, which was tough con- sidering their sloppy, undisci- plined game. For the first five minutes of the game, Douglas tried to rattle our skin with penalty after penal- ty, but we played UNBC rugby and took advantage of their fouls. Once Douglas learned our game style, the game became very close. Our hooker Rob Boucier played like a raging bull, knocking Douglas players off their feet every play. UNBC played perfect rugby and all of our players played with their heart and soul. This was a very deserving win. That afternoon we played Western Washington University from Bellingham. We played them in Whiterock. The game was close and hard fought, but we left our energy on the field at the Douglas game. Exhaustion got the better of us, in the last thirty minutes they scored three tries to win 27-12. Your chance to DUNK your favorite prof.!!
