BRE NORTHERN BC WINTER GAMES On Feb. 2 — 5 the NBCNG v7 macrame is that you can follow a pattern or, with a little experience, create your own. Matter of fact, you — may find yourself becoming quite an - artist in no time flat. The materials used are basically simple, but you can have a lot of fun — choosing your favourite colours and styles of jute, cord, beads (glass, wood, or ceramic), rings (metal or wood), and special decorations. And it-can be a real expedition to locate a suitable branch or piece of driftwood for some of the designs! Macrame is not. limited to plant — hangers. You can also make attractive lampshades, _ wall-hanging, _ purses, towel racks, curtains, hanging tables, even (though unlikely in Cassiar!) - hammocks. Many booklets are available which contain hundreds of. tantalizing patterns, often with easy- to-follow instructions for the beginner. Will you be hung up for ages on your macrame projects? Anyone who has spent months and months knitting a sweater or crocheting an afghan, as | have, knows how frustrating that can be. Good news - most macrame crea- tions can be finished in a few hours or a weekend at most. Many patterns, especially the more involved ones, can also be worked on by 2 people at NEW HOMES: Five new three bedroom log homes are under construction at Good Hope Lake, under a con- tract let by ‘British Columbia Remote Housing’ for Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation and the Provincial Department of Housing.
