It was however, if nothing else, the most trying. Senior Hockey started off as a three team league, made up of the Old Timers, the Blues, and Good Hope Lake and ended up as a three team leaque. The fun part, some- where between the beginning and the end was trying to keep the Good Hope Lake team together. Shortly before Christmas, the League held an emergency meeting to decide what to do about Good Hope Lake. It was Gecided that we needed three teams to keep the League viable. To ensure that Good Hope Lake would stay together, four players {three from the Blues, and one form the Old Timers) volunteered to play for Good Hope Lake. Well it may have kept the team to- gether: “(Sort \of) > but. it didnt make them any more competitive. Finally, with about’ five weeks left in the regular season and the addition of Billy Carter, Jason Hardy, Eric Klawitter, and Jerry Creyke the team became more competitive. Although they still ‘failed to win any games, their effort improved tremendously. ae Thank you to those players, Jody Miller, David Madore, who tried their best to keep Good Hope together, and thank you to the rest of the players. in the League for their patients during this very trying season. The Old Timers finished first during the regular season, they defeated the Blues’ four games to zero to win the cham- pionship. With the exception of the final game of the series, a bounce or two of the puck in fav- our of the Blues and the outcome of any given game could have been different. In the end it came down to the solid goal tending of Dave Tripp, along with the Old Timers on ice discipline and team play that made the difference in the games. An excellent final series between the Old Timers and Blues helped ease the memories of a most difficult season. Congrat-— ulations to the Old Timers ona victory well earned and deserved. The Senior Hockey Awards Banquet will be held on Saturday, May 12, starting at 6:00 p.m. in the Recreation Center. See your team reps or Charles Molloy to purchase your tickets. EAST/WEST GAME This years version of the annual East/West hockey game was perhaps the best game ever in the series - all of which have been. won by the West. Not to mention Albert Quinn's strong goal tending. Along with Floyd's two goals the West were led by Shannon Joseph and Dwayne Dennis with two assist each by Garred Huber after a rocky start, settled down to play a solid last two periods in goal. 5 The difference in this game was the members. The West, with thirteen skaters to the ten for the East, just had too much left at the end of the game. The East players were all exhausted for the final ten minutes of regula-- tion time, and if not for a great save by Albert Quinn on Pat Moth, with seconds left, the game would. not have gone to overtime.
