November 18, 1996 SAFETY FASHION SHOW In a valiant attempt to evoke even more enjoyment and education than last year, the SAFETY FASHION SHOW is once again an activity of the UNBC Safety Awareness Week. This demonstration of safety gear/apparel happens on Thursday, November 21, 1996 at 11:30 am in the Northwood Wintergarden. “Models” will not only show you their safety gear with the help of a commentator, but some will also engage in friendly competition during the actual Show. Remember the condom relay from last year? A few other ideas have been developed to challenge “safety” skills of competetors. It may be interesting to see if CHAINSAW WOMAN and/ or the BEST-DRESSED COUPLE chose __ to compete... Be part of the audience as volunteer community members from UNBC and broader Prince George demonstrate safety gear and apparel in an unique way! Complementary deserts will be available to audience members after the Show! ~~ SAFETY LYRICS CONTEST - Can you rhyme a bit? Do you possess even a small amount of creative ability? Are you able to maybe hum a few musical bars? Awareness Week by: competing in the Safety Lyrics Contest. What on Earth is that? Well, individuals or teams of - individuals create a set of Are you willing to accept a personal fun challenge? Then maybe you should consider getting into the music act during Safety new lyrics to one of four popular tunes that have been chosen by the judges. Lyrics must have a safety theme. Throughout the Week, these tunes will be broadcast This concert/lecture features Almeta Speaks and is brought to the UNBC campus as a Safer Campus Initiative by the UNBC Safer Campus Committee. The concert/lecture is designed to promote racial equity and a greater understanding of Canada’s ~ multicultural society. The contribution of Black Canadians to the history and development of Canada will be used as a point of departure leading to the presentation of a discussion of racism and equity issues. Almeta Speaks is a singer, pianist composer, writer, TV and radio producer, musicologist and lecturer on African heritage. She has won two Emmys and is periodically’ in the Northwood Wintergarden and the Cafeteria to familiarize you with the tunes and give you a chance to hum along with your new lyrics.
