The gymnasts performed for a good sized crowd of family and friends. The display included floor exercises and performances on the vault, parallel bars and balance-beam. Following the display, thank you presentations were made to Coach Pauline Snell and her assistants Joan John and John Wong for their contributions of time and talent to the Club. A Pot Luck banquet for the gymnasts is presently in the planning stages. Watch for future announcements on the date and time of the banquet. - Tracey McDougall doing a routine on the beam Cassiar Courier April 1985 Page 9 ANNUAL MIXED BONSPIEL .. “A” EVENT — BRINCO MINING TROPHY FIRST R to L: Bob Mahalynuk (skip), Arnie Hogland (third), Peter Boume (second), Alida Mahalynuk (lead), from Tungsten, -N.W.T. : SECOND Ralf «Voss, Greg Morgan, Bernd Guderjahn and Margaret Voss from Cassiar THIRD Barry Erickson, Merv Prier, Betty Ann Prier and Alita Erickson from Dease Lake FOURTH Ciril Habjan, John Colak, Joan Habjan and Bozo Colak from Cassiar “C” EVENT — G.E.C. Lots of people at rink on Wednesday evening to see me win first game — still in ““A’’. All visiting curlers arrive, Good to see curlers returning to a Cassiar Bonspiel. Also good to see you folk curling here for the first time. Big cocktail party Thursday evening. That punch gives me a sore head. All rich sheiks-come to cocktail party. Betty Carter, she does belly-dance on table. Her sheik said she had to walk home, three paces behind him. She don’t like to walk so crashes bridge game. Kerry and Pat:say that the words SNAP and FISH are not usually used dur- ing a bridge game. Glen Billingsley beats Adolf Penno, Adolf has to curl at 4 AM — good time to curl, eh? Gary Chapman and wife Cathy come to Cassiar bonspiel from big important Seagrams Mixed Tournament in Tor- onto. This scares their opposition for their first game so. much nobody shows up. Elvin’s partsman Frank — work- ed 20 years in Whitehorse and has never been to Cassiar, hasn't lived!!! Looked dazed and-bewildered when he ar- rived but he’s A-OK now. Elvin’s Third Ingrid — that coach she’s got, he hasn't taught her anything. Her team gets three rocks counting and she wants to give opposition one point. Wish she’d played against my good team. Now she not only knows how to count the score but she also knows what a cherry-pitter looks like. Karl and Hilde Voss and Hine Robichaud, all ex-members of the Cassiar Curling Club, come from Vancouver Island. Get Peter Voss of Dease Lake to skip their rink. They show Gord Becket they don’t forget this game of curling. Either that or Gord likes to curl at 4 AM. Ex-mine manag- er Peter Jones can’t come to bonspiel:so sends wife Kerry. Also sends telex outlining his curling strategy. Vancouver officer personnel John Oughtred, Gordon McKnight and John York come on Kerry Jones’ team. They follow Peter Jones’ curling strategy — don’t win any games. Should lis- ten to Kerry. My good team is about to get fired — they think | like the “C” Event. Glen: Billingsley, Stan Carter and David Brocklebank find the sofa at the Curling Club makes a comfortable bed — and even big enough for two. Eh Stan? Eh David? Eh Pauline? These curlers find interesting bed- fellows. rich sheiks arrive. Camel trains must have been busy this week. Pancake breakfast Saturday morning — chefs Bill Pratt, Ciril Habjan, John Colak and Mel Taylor do pretty good breakfast. One thing bad — that orange juice gave me a headache. Peter from Cantung , that man has a good memory — he reminded Mel Taylor of the game that Mel got beaten by Vancouver office. Mel’s memory not so good. John Oughtred sorry Mel didn’t enter a team in bonspiel this year. Glen Billingsley learned to hang on to his pants when Gary Swift was around. Good curling going on — lots of good teams down in “C” event with me. My good team would have scored an 8- ender if Keith Jones hadn't made a good shot. | go to ban- quet Saturday evening — looks like | ‘m at an OPEC ccn- vention. What a lovely banquet — almost rained out when the sprinkler system suddenly activated at the cafeteria. | guess Stefan’s cry of ‘Save the Lamb” created a bit of ex- citement about the place. Lucy Taylor won the gas bar- becue — and she tells me she didn’t buy a ticket. Now big barbecue at Mel’s place next weekend — everybody’s in- vited. First team out prize went to Ivan Vidovic (skip), Dragica Vidovic (third), Gary Swift (second) and Pam Reid play- ing lead.
