Last year’s league champions, the C.C.C. Blues had twenty players attend their one day training camp. This is an increase from the 6 to 10 players from last year. New faces include the speedy Skip Melny- chuk from Watson Lake, hustler Greg Morgan moving up from the Erickson Minors, and a host of others. The league will run on a similar format as last year with games being played on Tuesdays at 8:15 p.m., Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. and Sundays at 6:00 and 8:15 p.m. The hockey fans in Cassiar are invited to come out and cheer on their favor- ite team or player at these times. Last year’s play-off champions, the Old Timers will have a strong nucleus of Players: Don ‘Dynamite’ Harrison, Dave “Motor” Terris, Eldon ‘‘Pass Me The Puck’’ Hardy, Glen “11 win the next face-off’’ Madore, Guy ‘“‘guy- guy’’ Gregoire and new to the area R.J. ‘‘Mack - Truck’’ Wilson who is the principal at Cassiar High School. The Good Hope Lake Warriors have been steadily improving and will be challenging hard this year. Predictions have it that they will win a game early on in the season and will again be led by the inspirational plays of Marc Adams. Good goal-tending by the often overworked Albert Quinn is expected, barring the occurance of injury which took him out of the line-up last year. The young legs of the Erickson Minors will have the league’s sharp shooter Pat Moth back for another year. He will be supported by the free- wheeling Manley Guarducci, Lee Callow, and Frank Nuyens. The blue line is anchored by big Jim Kollar who moved the puck well last year. This year, our children are working under the direction of Holly Schmidt. For those new to the area, Holly was our pro two seasons ago. Our skating season began on October 6th and will run until the end of March, and the plans for the year are looking reat! : On October Ist, a general meeting was held and the turn out was terrific. It is really great to see such enthusiasm and help for the year. We were able to fill the vacant. positions of two directors, a carnival conveyner, bingo committee and ways and means. These people are busy with their plans and we are looking forward to the upcoming events. Our first Bingo was on October 21st, and was very successful. This year you'll notice that our bingos are money bingos except for the toy bingo in November. Coming up on November 8th is our annual SKATA-RAMA. We are looking forward to seeing any skater out in support of our club. Pledge sheets will be offered at the schools, as well as from Marlene Shipley or Gail Harrison. If you or your child would like to partici- pate we would love to see you out. It is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon, with the whole family out on the ice. The time of the SKATA-RAMA is from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Please support our children as they knock on your door for support. Other up coming events include a cook book sale, bake sales and a raffle. Our club is actively seeking any support that they can receive and this year would like to offer ourselves to any club or event that requires help in the way of canteens, coat checks, or any thing that we can be of assistance with. If there is anything that we can do, please give us a call. As for our skaters, we are looking forward to seeing them progress thru the channels of Canskate, Can- figure skate, and C.F.S.A. Test Skating. Our youngest - skaters are three years of age! The C.F.S.A. Test skaters skate on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m., and on Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. On eae: and pan you will find the Can- — | Cabthaad Go | ARCTIC CAT PANTERA’ COUGAR" PANTHER’ DARREN DECECCO JAG* DELUXE SUPER JAG" CHEETAH" 530 L/C skate group on the ice at 3:45 p.m. “and the Canfigure- skate group on from 4:45 p.m. At that same time, our older club members have been generously spending some of their time out on the ice assisting Holly with the new skaters. Some of the Moms are also out there. A SPECIAL THANKS TO THOSE HELPERS! Starting on November 6th, the club will be hosting hot lunches once a month at Snowridge School for six months. The prices are $2.00 for one hot dog, one drink, and one cookie or $2.50 for two hot dogs, one drink, and one cookie. Parents will be asked to pay for lunches in advance so as to avoid ‘collection problems’ for the teachers. Watch for a newsletter from Snowridge outlin- ing the dates. As you can see, I’m very excited about the support we’ve received and I know it’s going to be a GREAT SKATING SEASON! For those of you thinking about it, go for it! COME SKATE WITH US!! MEET HOLLY SCHIMDT Holly is a familiar face * jin Cassiar. She was the guest skater for the 1984 Ice Carnival and the club pro two years ago. She has also done a skating clinic in Watson Lake.
