8 January 19 + Over the Edge Student Savings Your guide to frugal living EMILY GAUVIN CLUBS EDITOR Coming back from the holidays we enter the semester more broke then when we left. A close friend once told me ‘I have never seen a hundred dollar bill and will never see one again’ and it is desperate times like these we can all relate to. So here is a few thrifty tips to prolong us all from making that dreaded phone call to mom and dad. School -Bargain Books Instead of buying books this year try borrowing them, trading, or checking them out at the Geoffrey Weller. | mean how often do you actually use them. Or if you must buy, Amazon has some great deals and savings. Living - Do it Yourself As easy as it can be to wake up and pick up a coffee at school, at the end of the week it really adds up. It can be just as easy as pushing a button in the morning and pouring yourself a cup out the door. This way you can make your coffee just to your liking. -Eat In Easiest way on saving money is really just to stop going out to eat so much. As lazy as we can all get, release your inner Julia Child and have some fun in the kitchen! -Nasty Business When things start to get pretty tight and you just don’t have the time to run to the store we all run into those TP emergencies. Public washrooms are a good first choice. But if you get down to the nitty gritty, you got to do what you got to do, and that may mean, yes, taking spare toilet paper from a washroom to your own household. count those pennies Entertainment -Telus Tuesdays Go to the movies courtesy of Telus. It gets pretty expensive to just have a chill night and catch a flick at the cinema. Thanks to Telus they provide half priced movie combos every Tuesday night. For movie and popcorn it will only cost you around 6-8 dollars rather than the 20 dollars you would pay regularly. Just make sure you arrive early enough and have a game plan for tackling the line up. -Utilize Your Assets Calling all single ladies, when going out to the bar on weekends, literally utilize your assets. No skirt is short enough and no shirt is low cut enough. As long as you don’t pull a Britney, leave a little mystery of what's really underneath it all, you can enjoy free drinks all night. Just dress to impress H to T (head to toe) and let the flirting do the rest. -Clever Cash Hate the morning after nights out when you look into your wallet and wonder who stole your cash when really shit just go serious and you realize you spent your grocery money on a night full of regrets. A clever tip can be just taking out a small amount of money to go out with and leaving the debit and credit at home. You will go home at least not regretting your spending. -Pre-Party Before going out your biggest money saver can be at the pre-party. Why pay money on expensive drinks when you can enjoy mixing those strong drinks with friends. Plus, that’s really were all the memories are made because we all remember the beginning of the night. Shopping -Double Discount It never hurts to ask for a student discount. In any store if you ask if there is as student discount you may luck out in stores that don’t even have student discounts.
