Tm, gore Isolation For Drug Addicts Proposal of R.C.M.P. SOLATION for drug addicts and continuing pressure on the “shrewd, amoral criminals” who sell them their drugs was a R.C.M.P. proposal to a special senate committee in Vancouver. It was the first time such a committee has met outside Ottawa. Vancouver was possibly chosen because of its unsavory title, “Canada’s narcotics capital.” The R.C.M.P.’s official opinions were given to the committee by Set. Harold Price, head of the 2l-man R.C.M.P. drug squad, stationed in Vancouver. “A number of witnesses have sug- gested some form of isolation,” Sgt. Price said. And I have the greatest sympathy for the addict. But as a policeman I know the addict’s lot today is hopeless. I know that 40 per cent of the addicts are in jail and the rest living in poverty, filth and degradation. I can’t help wondering why the opponents of this suggestion seem to consider isolation would be a hardship.” Narcotics to Blame Set. Price traced Vancouver’s recent history of violence and tied it directly to narcotics. ‘ ‘. . . It represents a see-saw battle of individuals or groups attempting to seize control of the narcotic traffic in this city,” he said. In addition to the sergeant, wit- nesses included Dr. A. W.
